Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to positively influence the Life Chances of children in Halton, working within the 0-19 service and in collaboration with Family hubs and wider partners. This post is fixed term for 12 months from April 2025. Through delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, the successful candidate will support the clinical infant feeding lead with the co-ordination of infant feeding services of the 0-19 public health teams to increase breastfeeding rates, influence introducing solid food practices, encourage healthy eating and reduce levels of obesity in Halton. This role is to support some of the new and ongoing family hub projects that form the infant feeding strategy for Halton which includes complex feeding clinics, collecting data and the preparation for UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative.

The successful post holder will support the infant feeding lead on planning, implementation, maintenance and reaccreditation of UNICEF BFI standards across the service. You will be expected to combine the education and training of clinical and support staff with expert direct clinical care. You will provide professional leadership and expert knowledge and advice around infant feeding. Audit and action planning will also be required to monitor and measure implementation of best practice standards.

Main duties of the job

Work autonomously within guidelines and Sphere of Professional Practice within a designated area whilst being responsible for interpretation, implementation and management of both national and international frameworks and standards in relation to Infant Feeding.

To be responsible for a range of policies/specialised programmes of care, strategy planning and service development regarding infant feeding and parent education programmes within the directorate to ensure consistent and accurate standards of information/advice is provided to all relevant client groups.

To lead, liaise and represent the Trust locally to develop strategies that addresses the public health agenda and facilitates service development.

Contribute to the development of policies/specialised programmes of care, strategy planning and service development regarding infant feeding and education programmes within the directorate.

Contribute to monitoring standards of care and ensure compliance that leads to improvement through benchmarking, audit and research.

Maintain a system in conjunction with IM&T that records the relevant statistical information required in relation to infant feeding and parent education.

Collect, collate, and report information, maintaining accurate records of all care delivered and ensure compliance with infant feeding standards by monitoring, analysing and acting upon findings.

    Develop an action plan with realistic goals to maintain BFI standards. Responsible for training and completing clinical supervision of all Bridgewater staff who have contact with women and their babies.

    Develop and deliver specialised programmes of care including specialist advice clinics for babies and mothers with complex feeding problems using highly developed physical and emotional skills. Record personally generated clinical records.

    To support the 0-19 public health teams to increase and improve breastfeeding rates in Halton and Warrington to attend 0-19 team meetings to raise awareness, provide updates, specialist advice and support.

    To lead on the collation of Breastfeeding Data provided by the 0-19 team across Halton and Warrington. Provide expert advice to develop and implement action plans to improve/ provide solutions to address issues with performance indicators in collaboration with 0-19 team leaders and challenge practice where appropriate. To be responsible for reporting monthly breastfeeding data across Halton and Warrington working with the Performance and data Lead to produce monthly reports and report to the 0-19 clinical manager on a monthly basis.

    To establish and maintain necessary partnership groups across primary, secondary care, Borough councils and partners to ensure effective Infant feeding service delivery.

    Use multiple communication and marketing methods to disseminate health information about breastfeeding, introducing solid foods and infant feeding e.g. press releases, development of health information, training etc

    Participate in formal and informal ways of communication both within the team and the wider primary care setting where appropriate.

    Ensure data for KPI is submitted within expected deadlines.

    To facilitate with Breastfeeding Peer support and volunteers, the assessment of premises to achieve the Baby Welcome Award.
