Bridgewater`s
0-19 services in Halton is looking for an enthusiastic and self- motivated
individual to work as a childhood immunisation community nurse in Halton`s
school-aged immunisation team.
The successful
candidate will be predominantly supporting the delivery of the immunisation
programmes delivered to school aged children across Halton. This will include
the Childhood flu, HPV, Men ACWY and Td/IPV immunisation programmes.
Experience of
vaccinating is desirable.
The post is an
annualised hours post. To work 840 hours a year. Working hours:-
19 hours for 30 weeks (Tue 08.45 14.30, Wed 08.00 14.30,
Thur 08.45 17.00
27 hours for 10 weeks during flu vaccination delivery (October
early December) (Tue 8.45 14.15, Wed 08.00 17.00, Thu 08.45 17.00. Fri
08.45 15.00)
12 weeks annual leave during school holidays
Main duties of the job
As a childhood immunisation
community nurse, the post holder will support the delivery of high-quality
childhood immunisation programmes, delivering large scale immunisation and
vaccination programmes within community and educational settings.
The post holder
will be responsible for ensuring the safe storage of vaccine, ensuring vaccine
is maintained within correct temperature requirements at all times. They will
then prepare and administer the vaccine safely and competently in accordance
with local / national standards, guidelines and policies.
The post holder
will ensure they have informed consent to proceed with vaccination and they
will assess a child / young persons suitability for vaccination and act on in
clinical judgements formed from complex information.
The post holder
will respond to adverse events following vaccination, including clinical
emergencies (anaphylaxis).

Clinical
Lead in the organisation of the
planning, delivery and evaluation of immunisation and vaccination programmes to
school age children including ordering and delivery of supplies and equipment,
storage of vaccines and waste disposal, delegating duties as appropriate
Ensure correct ordering, storage and
handling of vaccines procedures are followed
Identify and plan uptake
immunisations for those with incomplete immunisations opportunistically and on
referral from the wider children and young people workforce
Prepare and administer the vaccine
safely and competently in accordance with local/national standards, guidelines
and policies.
To be named / link nurse for
immunisations within specific educational establishments
Supervise children and young people
during immunisation sessions
Report any adverse reactions in
accordance with the yellow card reporting system
Undertake opportunistic and
domiciliary immunisations, following up non immunised children; providing
information, advice and updating data as required.
Ensure any vaccination given is
recorded as per local guidelines/policy
Liaises and advises teachers and
parents of the health needs of children and young people following vaccination.
Leadership:
Manage their time
effectively to ensure prioritisation of workload in order to achieve agreed
deadlines and service is covered.
Supervision and Development
Provide mentorship, preceptorship
and clinical supervision to staff as appropriate
Act to maintain an appropriate
learning environment to meet the educational and developmental needs of student
nurses and other learners as required
Support the development of the team
by teaching and assessing junior members of the team
Participate in individual
performance reviews (IPA) and clinical supervision.
Support the delivery of practical
competency assessment of nurses undertaking vaccination and immunisation
training.
Communication
Communicate
effectively with individuals, families and professionals in planning and
delivering care.
Utilise a range of
communication methods with colleagues and managers to include electronic
communication.
Maintain effective
working relationships, work effectively and support team members.
Participate in formal and
informal ways of communication both within the team and the wider primary care
setting where appropriate.
Work in
partnership with school staff, health colleagues and other agencies e.g.
Education and Social Services.
Attend staff meetings and ensure
that minutes are read and signed, especially when attendance has not been
