This
post ensures you will be an essential member of the Salaried Dental Service.
You will be working with our team of clinicians within the Cheshire and Merseyside area of the Dental Network within
Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The job role requires the provision of comprehensive routine and
specialised dental care to children and adults whose dental needs cannot be
fulfilled within General Dental Practice that are within the GDC Scope of
Practice for Dental Therapists. This will include the provision of inhalation sedation
when required or patient support on a domiciliary basis.
Patients may have multiple needs including one or more of the following:
learning disability, physical disability, chronic mental health condition,
complex medical history, dental anxiety, substance misuse.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a full range of extensive treatments (preventative, restorative and periodontal) in accordance with General Dental Council guidelines and current legislation, policies and procedures, including the use of inhalation sedation where indicated, for a range of patients who are under the care of the Salaried Dental Service, including children and adults and those with multiple complex needs.
- Understand the needs of patients with anxiety and disabilities and carry out their treatment accordingly.
- There is a continual requirement to reconsider treatment options as work progresses e.g. a tooth requiring a different treatment than was predicted, problems with patient co-operation.
- Communicate with all members of the clinical team and provide information to Dentists, Senior Dentists or Clinical Director / Assistant Clinical Director.
- Communicate appropriately with other health and social care professionals involved in the care of patients.

- Use of communication and interpersonal skills to ensure that consent has been obtained, the patient has full understanding of the treatment options and that they understand the role of the dental therapist
- Plan the appropriate order of treatment, implement, interpret / refine as treatment progresses to final discharge.
- Discuss specific treatment plans, if appropriate, analyse patient information and adapt for individual needs.
- Provide information and practical advice as appropriate for oral health needs of individuals to enable them to improve and maintain good oral health.
- Run the clinical environment and the immediate dental team.
- Refer patients to other dental professionals as treatment determines
- Ensure CPD needs are met by actively participating in the PDP annual review using same as a basis for discussion to identify training needs using the KSF outline.
