Job summary

This is an exciting post and offers the opportunity for an individual with demonstrable leadership and a vision for children's services. The Director of Nursing (Children) will provide professional nursing and strategic leadership for children and young people's wherever they are cared for across the Trust. They will be responsible for initiating and influencing the creation of new models of care and ensuring national standards are met in the delivery of high-quality services that support the care of children and young people.

They will offer dynamic and responsive leadership with a flexible and adaptable approach to support the local and system demands of a challenging, forward-thinking children and young people's services.

They will represent the trust in collaborative working with system colleagues to ensure services meet the needs of Children, young people and their families and provide outstanding outcomes in care, treatment, and experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the Childrens Directorate Associate Director of Operations to ensure delivery of all key objectives and professional clinical practice and standards in line with the Trust Strategy.

The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership for children and young people's services ensuring the delivery of consistently high standard of care, patient experience and satisfaction wherever they are seen within the Trust.

The post holder will demonstrate a highly visible, compassionate leadership style, which is underpinned by the values of the Trust.

Work in accordance with the NMC Code and oversee compliance with professional standards for nurses across the Childrens Directorate.

Provide clinical leadership to Nurses and Allied Health Professionals and line management to Professional Leads within childrens services, motivating and developing individuals to ensure that they are able to deliver all aspects of their roles.

Take responsibility and accountability for decision making and the provision of advice and guidance to all managers to support the delivery of the Trust Strategy.

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will be accountable to the Chief Nurse and be responsible for leading on the development and implementation of the Trust wide Nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHP) priorities for children and young peoples services.
  • To work collaboratively with the Deputy Chief Nurse and Associate Chief Nurse in the delivery and implementation of Professional Standards and Practice.
  • To provide professional leadership for all nurses and AHP within the Directorate such that the best professional standards which underpin excellent outcomes are deployed in all children and young person services.
  • To give professional advice on a range of complex clinical and care delivery issues. This will include statutory and regulatory standards and providing assurance of their delivery.
  • In partnership with the Directorate Associate Director take accountability for all aspects of patient safety and quality across the Directorate.
  • To assume responsibility for the advancement of clinical practice and development of roles to support the delivery of care.
  • Take the lead with regard to patient experience across the Directorate utilising information from compliments, complaints and other feedback mechanisms.

  • Ensure robust quality impact and equality impact assessments for any proposed cost improvements or service change.

  • Take part in any disciplinary/capability/performance hearings, chair panels as required.
