Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the senior clinical professional leadership team in the Trust.

It has been recognised that there is a need for a professional lead at a senior level in the organisation to lead and develop our psychological professionals. Funding has been secured initially for this post for one day a week.

The post holder will lead the development of the psychological professions across the Trust and will support the leads within each service.

Main duties of the job

Providing professional leadership to all Psychological Professional (PP) staff, fostering a culture which values continuing professional development and strives for excellence in the delivery of patient care and quality improvement in line with local, regional and national policy.

Ensure a culture of compassionate leadership, development and living of the Trust values and behaviours is embedded and promoted and act as a professional role model for all PPs at all times.

Lead on the development and implementation of PP standards and care aspects of the Trusts vision, values and behaviours, with particular reference to current national policy and statutory obligations.

Provide advice as required on professional and quality issues, in accordance with local and national policy.

Provide expert professional and visible leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers professionals across the whole Trust and primary care in all care settings.

Lead in further developing links with Health, Social care, Local Authority and third sector partners.

Job Purpose

The Deputy Director of Psychological Professions (PPs) will fully deputise aspects of the Executive Director of Nursing & AHPs portfolio as required and as relevant to the role and will provide strong and visible transformational leadership for Trust staff. This will include working across the wider primary care footprint and with the GP Confederation.

The post holder is expected to work as part of a cohesive team and, when necessary, to take lead responsibility for corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility.

The post holder will provide strategic leadership, promoting high quality and high value patient care is delivered throughout the Trust and wider primary care. Whilst accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing & AHPs they will be expected to work independently and be able to credibly influence across a range of disciplines to the highest level within and externally of the Trust.

The post holder will have a high degree of autonomy and act as a resource for Executive Directors, General Managers, Clinical Leads and primary care for professional advice and support.

Act as a role model, exhibiting high levels of professional behaviour at all times.

To ensure the critical review, implementation and achievement of the full range of national and local policies and targets relating to practice.

To be part of, including chairing where necessary disciplinary panels and formal hearing panels.

Responsible for the management of and reporting of information to, relevant internal and external stakeholders, including potentially highly sensitive information in the fields of clinical and service safety.

Provides and receives highly complex, sensitive, and contentious information, including presenting information about projects and dependencies to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in formal settings. This will include dealing with serious incidents, complaints, freedom of information requests, national returns e.g. for NHSE/NHSI and returns for CQC.

Is responsible for the line management of senior clinical staff e.g. heads of department and ensures leadership development for this group of staff.

  • Post graduate learning to Masters level or equivalent in relevant field
  • Registered Psychological Professional
  • Leadership and management qualification
  • Teaching, training or mentorship qualification or experience to the equivalent level
  • Appropriate statutory professional body registration with the HCPC or equivalent body
  • Must be willing to participate in any relevant training identified to develop skills required to carry out duties including extended role activities if relevant
  • Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards
