Job summary

This is a brilliant opportunity to be the Clinical Lead for the Children's Business Unit for the next twelve months.The role will improve safety, experience and clinical effectiveness providing clinical and professional leadership to the business unit, whist facilitating the transformation and integration of services.The role will work alongside the General Manager and support the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care to the children in our communities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the safe clinical delivery of services and pathways across the business unit portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director of the post holder will work in partnership with the General Manager and Medical Lead to provide strategic direction and leadership to the childrens business unit supporting integration and transformation of service delivery.

The post holder will support the Executive Director of Nursing and AHP's by taking overall responsibility, authority and accountability for the effectiveness of Clinical Leadership within the business unit and for Nursing and Allied Health Professional staff involvement in service planning, design, quality, governance, and delivery (including efficiency).

The post holder will work in partnership with the Medical Lead Director and have responsibility for the safe clinical delivery of services and pathways across the business unit portfolio.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the safe clinical delivery of services and pathways across the business unit portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations the post holder will work in partnership with the General Manager and Associate Medical Director to provide strategic direction and leadership to the identified business unit supporting integration and transformation of service delivery.

The post holder will support the Executive (Nurse ) Director of Quality by taking overall responsibility, authority and accountability for the effectiveness of Clinical Leadership within the business unit and for Nursing and Allied Health Professional staff involvement in service planning, design, quality, governance, and delivery (including efficiency).

The post holder will work in partnership with the Associate Medical Director and have responsibility for the safe clinical delivery of services and pathways across the business unit portfolio. They will be responsible for developing new and innovative practices and systems responding to emerging knowledge and techniques by interpreting and implementing national and local drivers.

The post holder will spend a minimum of one day a week in clinical practice and contribute to the first on call rota.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership

To develop an overall approach to leadership for Nursing and Allied Health Professionals within the Business Unit that is designed to improve performance and links effectively with other elements of professional and management leadership. Specifically:

  • Put in place a clear professional leadership structure covering all specialties and identifying/supporting the Clinical Lead for service planning and design, all aspects of Clinical Governance, teaching and research and develop clinical involvement and influence in these areas.
  • Be responsible for the Nursing and Allied Health Professional leadership in the portfolio, taking into account issues impacting internally and externally; proactively seeking creative solutions and sharing learning openly. This includes leading investigations; supporting performance management processes and ensuring complaints have clinical scrutiny that result in organisational learning.
  • Actively support matrix professional leadership where required by providing professional leadership to senior staff in other directorates if required to ensure all professions have a clear line of sight from the front line to the board.

  • Ensure that a professional service and image is maintained at all time, thereby acting as a role model to all staff
  • Provide a leadership style which is underpinned by strongly held values around equality, diversity and openness; effectively builds and maintains relationships with direct reportee(s), colleagues, patients and other key stakeholders
  • Lead the quality risk assessment and monitoring of cost improvement programmes at a directorate level
