Job summary

The Clinical Leadership Fellow (Quality and Professional Development) role provides a significant career and leadership development opportunity to build networks, acquire a deeper understanding of regulatory and professional standards, and the health and care system through supporting the delivery of key pieces of work. The role is ideal for clinicians who are interested in developing their leadership, strategic, communication and team working skills, those who are seeking leadership roles for the future and have an interest in improvement and transformation. The role will create the chance to expand strategic thinking and innovation and will enable a broader understanding of Leeds Community Healthcare systems and processes and its place within Leeds and the Integrated Care System (ICS). You will be supported by coaching, mentoring and shadowing opportunities based on individual learning needs.

Main duties of the job

You will work on specific projects or workstreams and will need to actively engage with a broad range of stakeholders from a range of health and social care settings. The specific workstreams will be agreed based on your past experience, area of interest and identified development needs. You will gain experience of working with senior NHS leaders and stakeholders, exposure to working within systems, and an understanding of local and national politics and how these impact local decision making.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of specific workstreams or projects which support both the clinical governance and professional development agendas and contribute to priority workstreams with partners across the Leeds system.

Working closely with other clinical, professional and operational leads, the post holder will provide clinical leadership and direction supporting the quality and transformation of service delivery.

The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice, and that of others, is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge and quality standards. They will be responsible for developing new and innovative practices responding to emerging knowledge and techniques.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical

1.1. Utilises advanced specialist knowledge covering a range of procedures and underpinned by relevant broad based knowledge, experience and competence

1.2. Develops and maintains new skills in extended scope practice in response to emerging knowledge and techniques

1.3. Demonstrates independent practice responding to social, scientific, clinical and ethical issues which are encountered

1.4. Makes complex judgements requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of options by integrating complex knowledge sources in new and/or unfamiliar contexts and determining the appropriate application of clinical guidelines relevant to patient needs

1.5. Responsible for developing new and innovative clinical pathways across the broad health and social care context

1.6. Engages and actively involves services and stakeholders and, if appropriate, patients and their family/carer, in the review, planning, implementation and evaluation of projects and workstreams ensuring patient-centred decision making including promoting a culture of self-care, involvement and empowerment

1.7. Prioritises their own workload within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others as appropriate.

1.8. Provides and receives highly complex, highly sensitive or highly contentious information where motivational, persuasive, empathetic, negotiating and reassurance skills are required whilst demonstrating an understanding of barriers to communication

1.9. Approaches each individual with care, compassion and sensitivity ensuring that these values are reflected in all aspects of the role including the management of compliments and complaints

1.10. To comply with the organisations Infection Prevention and Control requirements, including bare below the elbows dress code for staff with a direct care delivery role

1.13. Acts as a highly specialist source of information and support for other professionals and agencies across the broad health and social care context.
