Job summary

Would you like a rewarding career as an Occupational Therapy Assistant? We are currently recruiting a band 3 Childrens Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our team. We support children and young people (0-19) and their families in their homes, schools and in clinical environments. We aim to maximize their participation and independence in self care, school work and play and leisure.

We set meaningful goals with the children and their families based on their priorities. Intervention takes the form of advice, direct therapy sessions, and provision of specialist equipment. The children and young people we work with have a variety of needs including learning, physical and communication difficulties. We see children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, and autism. We work closely with a variety of other members of their health team, such as physiotherapists and speech and language therapists, as well as school teaching staff.

Main duties of the job

  • Work under the supervision of an OT to achieve goals set for children.
  • Carry out treatment programmes and advise families and school staff to support children to achieve their goals.
  • Adapt activities to the individual needs of the child and report back to the therapist on progress.
  • Work with children in their homes, in school (mainstream and special school), and in clinics across the city
  • Participate in delivering on-line parent workshops.
  • Complete safe moving and handling of children who have mobility needs or are hoisted.
  • Adjust equipment such as specialist chairs, bathing and toilet aids.
  • In addition to the clinical role there are admin duties such as booking appointments, making resources and liaison with other professionals.
  • You will record your interventions via an electronic patient record system (Systm1).
  • Applicants should be motivated, reliable, flexible, have good communication skills and be able to work with people with varying needs.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be providing direct and indirect patient care independently but with support available from a supervisor within the clinical area. In doing so, they will support the assessment of service users and implementation of programmes of care delegated to them by the appropriate staff member ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge.
