An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Lead Nurse to join our Childrens Community Nursing Service, in our Continuing Care & Health Short Breaks team. The team specialises in caring for children and young people with complex health needs & learning disabilities providing respite in the family home & other community settings, 24 hours a day throughout the year. Post holders will normally work weekday hours and will occasionally need to cover weekends and bank holidays as required. Candidates must be a registered nurse with clinical experience of working with children or adults with complex health. You will receive a full package of training until you are competent and confident to work alone. We are looking for somebody who has excellent communication skills, engages well with families and is enthusiastic about developing a team of staff and services. The role will involve city wide travel so access to transport with business insurance cover will be required.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for individuals who are caring, fun, resilient and motivated to work alongside a team of professionals. You will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload of children with highly complex health needs as well as lead and develop a team of both registered and nonregistered staff. Responsibilities include overseeing and managing clinical resources daily, training clinical and education teams, and teaching parents and family members in clinical aspects of their childs care. Our children have high levels of complex needs, so clinical skills are essential for the role i.e. Tracheostomy Ventilation, Total Parental Nutrition, Complex Epilepsy. Candidates will be problem solvers, innovative, have excellent communication skills, work autonomously and be able to prioritise, organise and delegate work. We work a cross-service model of working so you will have the opportunity to spend time and work with our other clinical teams which you may be asked to support.

The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload within their speciality area as an autonomous practitioner. In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient centred programmes of care to a specialist level ensuring that they practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge. The post holder will work to professional and regulatory body codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practical knowledge.
