Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Leeds Equipment Service (at Assisted Living Leeds) as a Planned Preventative Maintenance Assistant.

The Leeds Community Equipment Services role is to provide daily living and nursing equipment for people to use in their own home. Once the service user has no further use for the equipment it is collected, returned, cleaned, refurbished and then reissued. New equipment is also purchased.

The aim of Leeds Community Equipment Service is to provide the right equipment quickly to enable people to live as independent and inclusive lives, in their home.

The Planned Preventative Maintenance and Repairs team will achieve this aim by working closely with other parts of the service to ensure equipment is in serviceable order, ready to be issued.

The PPM team will carry out repairs, servicing and inspections in accordance with manufacturers instructions, guidance from MHRA and Health and Safety at Work Act.

Main duties of the job

The PPM Assistant will be expected to undertake repairs, maintenance and inspection checks to electrical, non-electrical, mechanical and non-mechanical equipment such as hoists, stand-aids, profiling beds, specialist seating, powered mattresses, slings, mobility aids (with or without brakes), bath stools, wheelchairs, shower chairs and rollators. The PPM Assistant will be required to LOLER service and PAT test equipment both within the warehouse environment and the clients property.

The PPM Assistant will be required to undertake suitable technical training and be competent to undertake maintenance and repairs. Team members will be required to use the IT systems to maintain an accurate record of all maintenance and repair activities.

Leeds Community Equipment is a seven day a week service.

The post will require working a rota pattern of 37.5 hours 5 days in over 7.

Shifts will be 8am 4pm, 9am 5pm and 10am - 6pm shifts on weekdays. Shifts will be 8am - 4pm on Saturday.

Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for their designated workload within their service area with access to support, advice and management from an appropriate senior member of staff. The post holder will work to professional standards and guidance at all times.

The post holder will be responsible for providing and maintaining an efficient and professional support function for the assembling, checking and repairs of basic Assistive Technology equipment, ensuring discretion and confidentiality at all times.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance Assistant

1.1. Ability to communicate effectively both face to face and on the telephone with customers, colleagues and carers/relatives. To communicate with customers in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating. Information is of a routine nature (general non clinical advice), though there may occasionally be barriers to understanding when working with some clients/ carers.

1.2. Ability to work within a customers property in a sensitive and appropriate way.

1.3. Attend various locations to complete both planned maintenance and repairs as required to non-mechanical, non-electrical, low level electrical and basic equipment such as slings, mobility aids (both with and without brakes), bath stools, wheelchairs, shower chairs, rollators etc. and PAT testing. Where applicable to exchange faulty equipment and return to store for repair/ disposal.

1.4. Assemble and check equipment to manufacturers instructions and clinical assessors instructions to meet customer requirements. To complete final inspection and quality check of equipment before items are picked for delivery.

1.5. Planned maintenance and repairs of recycled equipment.

1.6. Use computerised systems/ paper forms to record, collate and retain all relevant details of assembling, checking and repairing equipment and to ensure that equipment status can be tracked electronically.

1.7. To identify and request stock/ parts.

1.8. To report any faults/repairs outside of their remit to the Maintenance Team Leader.

1.9. To comply with Local Operational Procedure requirement for safe vehicle checks eg. Daily visual inspection of tyres, lights, oils etc.

1.10. To comply with all duties under an employees responsibility under Health and Safety legislation and policies of Leeds City Council and LCH.

1.11. Ensure all Local Operational Procedures are adhered to. Maintaining safety and security of the building eg signing in and out.

1.12. To ensure that equipment is moved and stored safe and securely within the store and when loading, unloading and transporting equipment.

1.13. Carry out duties independently without routine supervision, but with someone generally available for reference.

1.14. To maintain appropriate records for audit purposes.

1.15. To ensure fire regulations are adhered to. This may require acting as the nominated Fire Person depending on location and include weekly test of fire alarms and responding to alarms in buildings ensuring compliance with local procedures.

1.16. To provide appropriate cover if required within an agreed area to maintain service provision.
