Job summary
We are seeking the appointment of an enthusiastic candidate for a substantive Consultant post working for the Community Dental Service (CDS), based at St Georges Centre, Middleton. The available post is for 8 sessions but candidates wishing to work part-time or in a job share are encouraged to apply. The post is designed to provide consultant leadership for the Leeds CDS.
We are a city-wide service with clinics at Yeadon, Middleton and Chapeltown and you would be expected to work from all 3 of these clinics.
There is no on call with this post.
As a team we are committed to providing a high-quality service to our community and committed to developing as a team Good written, verbal and communication skills are essential and previous knowledge of dental software/systems would be desirable although training will be provided.
The postholder will also be active in postgraduate teaching and will have opportunities to develop appropriate research interests.
We will need you to be flexible in your approach to work as you will need to work at all of the clinics across Leeds, ability to travel is essential.
Applicants should be on the Specialist Register and have completed the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exam (ISFE) at the time of appointment (or within 6 months of time of interview) (Paeds) and be on the Special Care Specialist Register and have completed 24 months of working at Specialist level at the time of appointment (Special Care).
Main duties of the job
- Your primary responsibility will be to lead the service as a Consultant for Special Care Dentistry within Leeds CDS.
- To take a lead role as Consultant for Special Care Dentistry within Leeds CDS.
- To be responsible for the delivery of high quality, comprehensive special care dental services for Leeds residents who cannot be treated within a General Dental Practitioner setting and whose needs fit with the remit of the Leeds CDS.
- To provide a seamless dental service across the primary and secondary care boundary.
- To provide strategic direction and professional clinical leadership of the service.
- To undertake regular clinical sessions and lead the General Anaesthetic Services for adults requiring specialist dental care in the Leeds CDS.
- To play an active role as trainer for JDFCTs, Tier 2 participants, DCTs, StRs and other trainees within Leeds CDS.
- To support the culture of continuous service improvement to meet future patient needs.

relation to special care dentistry across three local centres and the Leeds Teaching
Hospitals.

provide outpatient care directly requiring the experience and skills
commensurate with consultant level training.
3.
To
devise treatment plans for dental patients and to oversee the implementation
thereof at the clinic base.
4.
To
triage complex referrals to the service and ensure appropriate outcome for
treatment delivery in terms of operator and venue, ie to senior clinicians,
dental officers, therapist or hygienist.
5.
To
carry out treatment of Tier 3a/3b patients and take overall responsibility for
the overall delivery and pathway of care in relation to special care dentistry.
6.
To
monitor and tutor other members of the Team to develop these skills.
7.
The
lead the General Anaesthetic Services in the Leeds CDS, assessing patients
referred by general dental practitioners or other dentists/dental professionals
working within Leeds CDS.
8.
Any
other duties commensurate with the nature and level of this post.
