Job summary
The Integrated Children with Additional Needs (ICAN) service is looking for a dynamic, passionate Registered Children's Nurse with an interest in working with children and young people with additional needs.
You will support our multi-professional team within a clinic setting. You will provide and manage direct and indirect patient care to children and young people, engaging and involving the individual and their family or carers promoting a culture of self-care, involvement and empowerment.
We are offering an exciting, permanent role of 22.5 hours per week, working 3 days 08:30-17:00 (Wednesday to Friday) with occasional late running clinics, citywide across our 3 hubs. Flexible working will be considered.
As a Registered Nurse, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a forward thinking, multi-professional team with an opportunity to truly make a difference to children and young people with additional needs.
Key responsibilities are facilitating and overseeing the delivery of clinical care within the clinic setting, supervising and supporting the work of the Healthcare Support Workers and students on placement.
Main duties of the job
You will demonstrate the acquisition of clinical skills through practice and training. You will also have oversight of community eye clinics that are run by the Healthcare Support Workers. Clinics running citywide include Paediatric Neuro-Disability, Community Paediatrics, Growth and Nutrition and Child Protection Medicals. A central part of your role will be supporting our Child Protection clinics, run by Paediatricians and the Clinic Nursing Team.
Due to the nature of these clinics, an empathetic and compassionate approach towards children and their families is paramount. Child Protection clinics can run outside of core hours (past 17:00) so the flexibility to work these additional hours is key.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake investigations such as venepuncture, administer immunisations, manage waiting lists and liaise with Paediatricians and the wider multi-professional team. You will also be required to support our intervention pathways including sleep/melatonin and continence. This provides an opportunity to promote and deliver health information.
Experience or interest in community nursing, child protection and working with children with additional needs is essential.
