Oral Health Improvement Practitioner

Job summary

Are you a proactive and energetic clinical practitioner with an interest in oral health promotion and improvement work. Do you want to be part of a team that aims to reduce oral health inequalities and improve the oral health of children in Leeds? If the answer is yes, why not apply for our newly advertised Oral Health Promotion Improvement Practitioner post within the 0-19 Public Health Integrated Nursing Service (PHINS).

The successful applicant will be working alongside the Oral Health Promotion Lead with a range of health promotion activities and will also autonomously deliver the training for the toothbrushing scheme in Leeds schools. The successful applicant will also link in with local schools and other key partner agencies supporting the overall Leeds oral health strategy agenda work.

Duties:

  • To contribute to the development of the oral health improvement agenda across Leeds Community Health Services.
  • To follow local and national guidelines and protocols in providing evidence based oral health promotion advice.
  • To work without direct supervision in the delivery of Oral Health evidence-based promotion/prevention programmes

Main duties of the job

  • To lead and deliver a range of oral health improvement resources and programmes as identified in local and national strategies. This will be inclusive of the smiles award and to lead and deliver the Toothbrushing Scheme training to all required settings in Leeds
  • To deliver training for educational settings on how to deliver the tooth brushing scheme
  • To assist with established health improvement campaigns and programmes, identified by the Oral Health Promotion Lead, providing appropriate resources, programme stock, and information.
  • Support with the delivery of oral health resources across Leeds to support delivery of the tooth brushing scheme and the brushing for life scheme.
  • To Liaise with different settings keeping accurate records of all activities.
  • Assist with auditing as part of the tooth brushing schemes within pre-school and school settings.
  • Supporting the Oral Health Lead with the training of practitioners and external partners
  • To support inhouse Oral Health training, and train the trainer programmes following the HABIT model
  • To Maintain regular contact with programme settings, identify & report any potential barriers or issues that may impede continued delivery or target attainment and maintain accurate records for all contacts.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, professional development meetings, audits and training
