Job summary

We are pleased to announce a fantastic opening for a Band B Senior Dental Officer to join the Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust based in the Community Dental Service, for a part-time 0.6 WTE (22.5 hrs) permanent post.

We are a consultant-led, referral-only service which provides NHS dental care for children & adults who have treatment needs which cant be met in general dental practice. You will be working with patients with complex needs, including physical, mental health, sensory, medical, or social impairment. Therefore, all our dental suites have a range of facilities to make sure they are fully accessible Our service is proud to be a partner within the West Yorkshire Community Dental Service Collaborative, and aims to be the leading provider of dental care in Leeds for children and adults of Tier 2 complexity and above.

The Senior Dental Officer will provide dental care in our clinics located throughout the city (currently Chapeltown, Middleton & Yeadon). The post may also involve supporting in general anaesthetic theatres within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, screening at the Adel Beck Secure Childrens Home, and domiciliary visits. Clinical facilities within our service include: surgeries equipped with ceiling track hoists, a wheelchair recliner and bariatric bench, the provision of inhalation and intravenous sedation, and access to comprehensive care under GA.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Dental Officer will be working with a supportive and compassionate team comprising dentists, dental therapists, dental nurses and administrative team members.

They will be accountable to the Consultant in Special Care Dentistry and Head of Service. They are responsible for the supervision of Band A dentists and dental therapists as required. This may also include conducting appraisals and other management responsibilities or responsibility for a specific area, such as radiography, sedation, quality improvement etc.

They will be expected in their clinical duties to perform dental care for both children and adults in clinics located throughout the city. Domiciliary visits, screening at the Adel Beck Secure childrens home and assisting in GA theatres may be required. The assessment, treatment planning, and provision of treatment for children and adults of Tier 2 complexity is required.

They will also be required to provide treatment under conscious sedation and may be required to supervision clinicians for sedation cases during training.

Where a longitudinal, core, or mid-year dental trainee is present within CDS, the Senior Dental Officer may be asked to support and clinically supervise the trainee. Contribution to the clinical and service development of the CDS is also a key component of this post. This will include participation in team meetings, peer review, and clinical governance and quality improvement activities as required.
