Job summary

Two exciting roles have arisen in Leeds for enthusiastic Assistant Psychologists, within the Infant Mental Health Service (IMHS) and Therapeutic Social Work Team (TSWT).

The posts are ideal for candidates passionate about supporting the wellbeing of children and families. They offer excellent opportunities to further develop an understanding of the impact of trauma and adverse care experiences on attachment and development, and to work systemically with family and professional networks.

We are seeking candidates who: take an innovative, flexible approach work well in teams have excellent interpersonal & organisational skills manage a varied workload are competent in the use of Microsoft software use research skills for service evaluation.

You will be supported through regular supervision with a clinical psychologist. Training will be provided to support you in the post & with your development. Prior experiences in the role of an Assistant Psychologist and within a child/family service are desirable.

The postholder will have an upper 2nd class honours degree in Psychology. The posts are fixed term IMHS until August 2025, TSWT until March 2026.

Main duties of the job

Key duties

IMHS:

  • Co-delivering training to practitioners working with infants and families
  • Promotion and dissemination of research and IMHS information
  • Supporting direct work with families in the antenatal, postnatal and early childhood periods; supporting the parent-infant relationship and parent-partner relationships to promote infant wellbeing
  • Opportunities to co-facilitate reflective case discussion sessions and consultations
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues in maternity services, health visiting & childrens services across the region and supporting good working links with mental health services, social care and the voluntary sector
  • Attending service meetings, data support and entry, completing evaluations and audits and helping to write reports for key stakeholders.

TSWT:

  • Supporting the development of formulations which draw on a range of theories
  • Conducting psychological/neurodevelopmental assessments
  • Supporting the development of Trauma Informed Care
  • Supporting the embedding of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) as a model within the team, including possible involvement in a clinical trial -Supporting other evaluation and audit activities and service developments
  • Working to share the key messages of the TSWT within an interagency system
  • There may be opportunities to access supervision/training to develop clinical skills to support the delivery of direct clinical work using the core team models of DDP and Theraplay.
