We are looking for a qualified dietitian who is passionate about supporting the delivery of an effective, responsive and caring service.

This post is permanent, flexible (hybrid working), we are recruiting for a full time 37.5 hours dietitian and a part time 18.75 hours dietitian.

Our service runs between 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday.The Diabetes Team currently consists of admin/diabetes facilitators/specialist diabetes nurses, specialist diabetes dietitians, pharmacists and GPi. We pride ourselves in supporting each other through peer support and clinical lead.

A Specialist diabetes dietitian you will offer evidence-based dietary advice to patients with diabetes while considering factors including nutritional status, medication, diabetes control and lifestyle. Duties relating to your role include:

  • MDT working with Diabetes Specialist Nurse, pharmacists and GPsi within the team
  • Specialist Diabetes Dietetic clinics both in person at designated Leeds Community Healthcare health centres and via telephone
  • Home visits for patients living with Type 2 that are housebound
  • Education groups run for people with Type 2 Diabetes
  • Resource/leaflet development for people with Type 2 diabetes
  • Student training

Main duties of the job

  1. You will offer 1:1 dietetic support for patients living with Type II diabetes who also require support with undernutrition, poor wound healing, weight management, enteral nutrition and finally patients with a hba1c > 70 who are undertaking a specific diet that may increase risk of hypoglycaemia/nutrition deficiencies.
  2. You will also support our nurses with patients on specific insulin regimes where diet may be impacting on hba1c levels. Examples of this include Basal Bolus patients and patients who are suffering from multiple hypos due to variable/erratic carbohydrate intake.
  3. To provide relevant information and counselling regarding diet in association with the individuals ethical, cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational needs in relation to diabetes.
  4. To provide home visits for housebound patients
  5. To liaise with the Diabetes Dietetic Team Leader, Clinical Team Leader & Professional Lead for Dietetics and other Dietitians to provide a comprehensive diabetes service.

Full training will be provided to allow you to manage a caseload of Type II diabetes patients. We have recently developed as an example Insulin competency which will allow our clinicians to manage, assess and treat patients on insulin regimes such as basal bolus.
