Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Podiatry Assistant Practitioner in the Podiatry and Foot Health Service. Part time hours comprising of 3 days per week are available.

This role will encompass face to face assessment and management of patient's within the patient's home and clinics.

You will provide diabetes foot screening and management of simple foot conditions as well as assisting in our nail surgery and ulcer clinics. The post holder will also be involved in operational administration of the podiatry service alongside ensuring our clinics and service adheres to Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures by carrying out IPC audits of clinics and management of stock control.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for providing footcare and advice to patients across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Health community in a clinical and domiciliary setting.
  • You will work under the guidance of qualified podiatrists in a variety of locations performing health assessments and delivering individualised treatment programmes. This includes scalpel work, supporting the podiatrists in nail surgery clinics and providing a high standard of administrative and operational support. Ensuring effective stock control, monitoring compliance with Infection Prevention control policies and providing assistance for the clinical teams across various locations.
  • You will be a member of a dedicated team but equally you must be able to work alone most of the time with remote podiatrist support.
  • You must possess excellent administrative and time management skills, be a self starter, computer literate and be able to deal with complex information, complaints and at times, contentious patients.
  • Willingness to undertake Foot Health Practitioner Training is essential, also training on how to carry out this role will be provided. Previous experience within a podiatry team is essential.
  • You must also be able to meet the travel commitments for this post and access to a vehicle is essential due to the need to travel to clinical locations or patient's homes.

  • Foundation degree Health and Social Care or equivalent level 5 qualification i.e. Diploma in Foot Health plus A-levels and GCSEs or equivalent(s) (level 2). To include Level 2 Maths & English or the ability to complete before end stage assessment of B.Sc. Hons Plus Level 2 science or equivalent
  • Or The qualifications and ability to commence a level 5 apprenticeship, such as the Assistant Practitioner apprenticeship, or B.Sc. (Hons) Podiatry Apprenticeship within 6 months of recruitment
