The closing date is 12 March 2026

Job summary

A fixed term or secondment opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to gain experience as a Wheelchair Therapist working in Shropshire Wheelchair and Posture Service. The service covers the Shropshire County and Telford & Wrekin areas. The post is to cover a career break for a minimum of 6 months.

Please note this vacancy may close early if a high volume of applications is received, we advise you submit your application early to avoid disappointment.

Main duties of the job

Post graduation experience of hands-on clinical work is advantageous, along with some experience around wheelchair usage, however direct involvement in wheelchair assessment and provision is not essential. A thorough period of training and mentorship will be available in order for the post holder to gain the skills and knowledge required. The service actively encourages continuous professional development through supported attendance on specialist courses.

This is an opportunity to gain additional skills and experience to your portfolio, covering posture management and wheeled mobility. The post holder will be given the skills to carry out assessments, prescriptions and issue of wheelchairs, including manual, powered and voucher options, special seating and pressure relieving equipment, providing a service to address the needs of our residents spanning all age groups and conditions. This work is carried out in a variety of settings including patients own homes, schools, nursing homes and in clinics.

The friendly and supportive Wheelchair Service team consists of Therapists, Rehabilitation Engineers, Repair Service as well as Administrative Support. The team works closely with other healthcare and education colleagues, amid strong links with the broader West Midlands Region and a noticeable national profile.
