Job summary

Shropshire Community Health Trust's Children's Speech and Language Therapy Team provides community-based services for children in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, aged 0 -18.

We are looking for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our team for the next year to support a project funded by the Change Programme for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Shropshire Primary school hubs for children with additional needs. There will also be an opportunity to join one of the other clinical specialist SLT teams.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide, as an autonomous practitioner, assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment for service users within a specialist area and to liaise with and refer on to other health, education and social care providers as appropriate.
  • To work as a member of the community service within early years and/or specialist education settings, including, contributing to their development.
  • To provide multidisciplinary functions within the post holders sphere of competence to service users across these and mainstream education settings.
  • To develop the post holders' own professional practice by keeping up to date with clinical developments and responding to available evidence.
  • To provide specialist advice, education and training in the specialist area.

The Children's SLT team work closely within Children's Therapy Services with the Child Development Centres and Community Paediatrics, and also provide in reaching services to the local acute wards

  • Holds recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent.
