Prison Mental Health Team Leader

Job summary

We are look to appoint for the position of Prison Mental Health Team Leader based at HMPYOI Stoke Heath Prison.

In this role you would be responsible to overseeing and planning primary mental health services to ensure that identified patients receive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of mental health needs. Central to the role is to act as the duty manager for all providers in relation to daily operational issues i.e. staffing, resources, incident management. Additionally, you would support our partner organisations by working in an integrated manner to ensure administration services are provided across Stoke Heath Integrated Care.

Main duties of the job

Support patients and exercise positive Use of statutory and organisational requirements and guidelines, relating to the administration of medicine.

Respect patient's individuality and maintain their privacy, dignity and human rights within the constraints of the custodial environment.

Support patients to address issues which effect their own health, behaviour and social welfare. Provide patients with support during healthcare activities.

Support patients who are distressed who could be at risk of harm to themselves or others, or who are at risk of suicide.

Take responsibility for clinical treatment or appropriate referral to doctors or outside agencies, also removal of risk factors in a situation where risk of self harm, or harm to others or suicide seems evident.

Develop relationships with professional boundaries as part of a purposeful caring regime.

Respond to healthcare and prison emergencies, relating to prisoners, staff and visitors, within the establishment in accordance with policies and procedures.

Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team and other disciplines as required.

  • Competency in mental health risk assessment
  • Evidence of appropriate knowledge base in primary mental health
  • Diploma / Degree in nursing studies
  • Non-medical prescriber (V300) qualification, or willingness to attain this.
  • Experience and knowledge of confidentiality and data protection act.
