Main duties of the job
This role involves a range of tasks including patient movements, transportation of goods, the handling of medical gases/specimens/post room duties and the movement of deceased patients.

Job responsibilities
- Collection of dirty linen and refuse/clinical waste around the hospital site and safe disposal of refuse clinical waste.
- Delivery and collection of linen services to wards and departments.
- Delivery and collection of mail and clerical data to wards and departments and assist with the sorting of mail.
- Delivery and collection of drug boxes.
- Delivery of catering, domestic, general stores and stationery stores to wards and departments.
- Delivery of medical gases to wards and departments and the changing of gas cylinder bank.
- Taking and collecting prescriptions from a Doctors surgery and chemist.
- The movement of beds, furniture and equipment and hanging of curtains.
- The movement of deceased patients to the mortuary facility.
- The preparation of rooms for functions; for example setting up rooms for meetings by moving tables and chairs.
- Advise Hotel Services Manager of domestic supplies for ordering.
- Report hazards, potential hazards and any faults to the appropriate manager.
- Carry out security duties as required.
- Help with maintenance as required.
- Keep records in relation to any Portering duties.
- Support Community Hospitals across the Trust where appropriate as and when required.
