We are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our Barnet Unplanned Care Service as a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist. Based at Finchley Memorial Hospital, this role will give you the chance to make a real difference to patients' lives by supporting them through complex and urgent care needs in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated, passionate and enthusiastic team player with a positive attitude and commitment to providing excellent holistic care and interventions.

You will be able to be creative and be resourceful in your approach to client rehabilitation using your clinical skills to assess and create intervention plans for a varied caseload of patients.

As a B6 Occupational Therapist you will also be responsible for providing supervision, support and education to other junior therapists, students and community support workers.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in service development opportunities and audits. There is a commitment to evidence based practice and you will be encouraged to look for opportunities to promote this within the teams and seek out potential research projects.

Having a full UK driving license and access to own transport for business purposes are essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake specialised uni-professional and multi-professional assessments. To develop and implement treatment plans for clients referred to the Barnet Discharge to Assess (D2A) Service including Rapid Response Service. These clients may present with a variety of complex multi-pathologies within specialist areas, including neurological conditions.
  • To participate in the Single Assessment Process when appropriate, performing overview assessments and complex specialist assessments as appropriate.
  • To communicate relevant medical information, assessment details, advice and recommendations across agencies and with clients in compliance with trust guidelines for sharing of information and informed consent. These agencies include General Practitioners, Social Services, healthcare professionals, voluntary agencies, and residential homes.
  • To be responsible for gaining valid, informed consent for assessment, treatment interventions and sharing of information in compliance with legal and professional guidelines. To be able to interpret and follow these guidelines in circumstances where clients do not have capacity to provide informed consent.
  • To have working knowledge of clinical guidelines; specific to the area you are working in and, with the guidance of your supervisor, to translate these guidelines into clinical practice.

  • Ability to apply core occupational therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client cantered, goal setting.
  • Knowledge of outcome measures and evidence-based practice relevant to occupational therapy practice in neurology
  • Knowledge of the NICE falls guidelines, National Stroke Strategy, Clinical Guidelines for Stroke and the National Service Framework for Long-term Conditions
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate clinical reasoning.
  • Basic IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel
  • Teaching of junior staff / students, peers in in service training setting
