Special Schools (Westminster) and Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea Mainstream Schools Service

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 SLT to join our education service. The role will include supporting autistic children and young people as part of the on-site team within a special school setting alongside work in the mainstream schools team.

Main duties of the job

Join us if you want to:

  • Deliver specialist interventions to varied caseload of children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans.

  • Work with the onsite therapies team to embed good universal and targeted level practise within the special school setting.

  • Work jointly with parents, the class teams and other professionals to develop a shared understanding of each child's speech, language and communication needs and how these can be supported.

  • Refine your skills in delivering a range of interventions (including AAC).

  • Develop your supervision skills and skills in training others.

  • Access 1:1 & peer group supervision sessions and a regular in-house training programme to develop clinical skills.

  • Access Joint working and second opinions from clinical specialists within the service

  • Work within innovative, motivated and well-established teams, in a supportive and progressive environment

  • Work in Central London locations

  • Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of supporting CYP, families and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 including contribution to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments), contribution to the annual review process and delivery of SLT provision as specified in Education health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Collaborative work with parents and other professionals
  • Experience Training others

Desirable

  • Interest to develop clinical specialism in education
  • Training/experience of supporting students and more junior qualified therapists including provision of supervision and line management

Skills

  • Excellent Interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy
  • Excellent communication /presentation skills verbal and written
  • Understanding of typical child development Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
  • Good working knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for school aged CYP with Speech, Language and Communication needs and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual CYP
  • Understanding and application of Education Practice and Policy including the Children and Families Act 2014
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to the Education)
