Job summary
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join the Assistive Communication Service, as part of Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist with experience working with children and or adults who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
The Assistive Communication Service (ACS) is one of the specialised Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) service for London. We deliver specialised AAC assessments, prescription, initial training and set up of equipment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of high quality, client-cantered, evidence based practice in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC).
The post has an excellent line management structure. It is supported by the Principal SLT for AAC and multidisciplinary team at the Assistive Communication Service.

The maintenance of skills within the ever evolving field of AAC is particularly supported, with an emphasis upon self-directed learning and training as appropriate.

Main duties of the job
- To provide highly specialist assessment and recommendations for AAC intervention for clients referred to the ACS

To prescribe appropriate equipment and educate clients/parents/carers in the safe use of this equipment, following the ACS equipment procurement, prescription and risk assessments, to maximise clients' independence, participation, communication and safety.

To work closely with other members of the inter-disciplinary ACS team and referring community Teams to provide a comprehensive, seamless service, aiming to improve and maintain functional ability of clients referred to ACS
- To assist in the day-to-day operation of the ACS. This may include answering queries, fielding referrals, contributing to team discussions, responding to client needs, managing staff sick leave, delegating appropriate tasks, communicating with other team members and outside agencies and other operational activities.
- To act as a highly specialist Speech and Language therapist, providing education, training and advice to junior occupational therapists, rehabilitation assistants and staff from other disciplines through formal and informal training, advice and joint assessments
