Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Special Schools & ARPs team. You will work across two school sites, one in H&F and one in Westminster, providing the SLT service to Children and Young People (CYP) with a range of severe learning difficulties (SLD) including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). You will have opportunities to work as part of an MDT and to develop your clinical skills in relation to a wide range of approaches. On both sites you will be part of an established team.

Supporting implementation of the whole systems approach to deliver on speech language and communication plans as identified in EHCPs. We work collaboratively with education colleagues and families to ensure that pupils' language and communication support is integrated throughout their day. Through joint planning and delivery of interventions in the classroom and through support to families you will ensure that SLT input has a functional impact for the pupils you support.

Main duties of the job

  • Working with increasing independence to provide assessment, diagnosis, appropriate intervention and discharge for children within the role.
  • Working closely with children, families and other professionals, providing advice to others regarding the clinical management to support childrenand young people as relevant to the post.
  • Supporting the delivery of a wide range of school aged intervention packages in relation to the whole system approach to supporting speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) within designated locality community & school settings.
  • Understanding and meeting professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children's Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Maintaining accountability for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical notes in appropriate format and write reports as requested in line with service, RCSLT and HCPC guidelines.
  • Working closely with children & young people, parents, carers and other agencies agreeing decision making relative to clinical management
  • Working flexibly across bases, with a requirement for cross-team working.
