Job summary

Are you a highly motivated and skilled speech and language therapist looking to advance their skills in autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders including Developmental Language Disorder?

We are currently looking for an experienced band 7 ADOS trained SLT with a passion for working with children with Social Communication Difficulties (SCD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as part of a friendly, experienced and knowledgeable multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

You will have a key role in the assessment of ASD in pre-school and school aged children working alongside Paediatricians and other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) within the Cheyne Child Development Services based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Parkview Centre for Health and Wellbeing and at Woodfield Child Development Service based at the Medical Centre, Woodfield Road. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced clinicians wanting to continue to develop their expertise and interest in working within Child Development Services.

You will also be joining a progressive, collaborative and innovative Early Years Speech and Language Therapy team delivering a service to the Boroughs of Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea. The post holder will be required to assist senior colleagues as and when necessary, in tasks related to audit, service development and supervision.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Work within the Early Years Speech and Language Therapy and Child Development Service Teams to provide a highly specialist assessment and diagnostic service as part of a multidisciplinary team, for assessment and diagnosis of Autism and related conditions using relevant standardised assessments of children's language, communication and interaction skills (such as the ADOS).
  • Deliver highly specialist clinical services to children across the age range referred to the child development service.
  • Have well established and proven highly specialist skills in the area of Autism Spectrum Condition and other relevant clinical specialisms within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload. This will have been acquiredthrough a combination of short courses/ modules up to Master's level or equivalent with demonstrable in-depth experience of clinical practice.
  • Provide highly specialist clinical supervision and line management to other speech and language therapists and support in the training and development of junior therapists in the team.

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
  • Health Care Professionals Council Licence to Practice
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
  • Continued Professional Development Portfolio including evidence of reflective practice, completion of specialist training/ courses and additional study courses attended and experience gained
  • Evidence of Autism assessment experience.
  • Completed ADOS assessment training, has been regularly using ADOS assessments with preschool and school aged children and is confident in administering the assessment, interpreting the findings and scoring the assessment.

Desirable

  • Extensive experience of working with children with speech, language and communication disorders and social communication differences including those associated with complex needs (at least 4 years postgraduate experience).

  • Experience in the assessment and management of children with Autism, Learning disabilities, Language disorders
  • Ability to make differential diagnoses on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate
  • Extensive experience in participating in MDT diagnostic assessments and contributing to MDT reports
  • Extensive experience of multi-disciplinary and inter agency working Collaborative work with parents and other professionals, across settings
  • Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating training to a range of audiences
  • Experience in supervising and line managing other SLTs
