Job summary
Job Purpose
To provide a high-quality clinical Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service to people living in the community who have learning disability health needs, within the Barnet Learning Disabilities Service.
To independently manage their own caseload and be clinically responsible for their caseload of adults with complex communication difficulties and Dysphagia, in a variety of settings.
To carry out specific assessments and interventions with adults with learning disabilities, as delegated by a senior Speech & Language Therapist.
To support and work with SLT students to implement therapy programmes.
To provide training for other professionals and others working in the community with adults with a learning disability.

Assess, diagnose, develop and implement programmes of care to meet the needs of adults with complex communication difficulties and/or Dysphagia.
Prioritise, assess, treat and manage and discharge cases appropriately from own caseload.
Interpret test data and evaluate other presenting factors in order to plan and implement therapy programmes as necessary on an individual and / or group basis.
Work independently as part of a multi-professional team, managing own time effectively.

Essential
- First degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
- Post graduate training in clinical areas relevant to the post e.g. Makaton, Clinical Supervision, PECS, Talking Mats.
Desirable
- RCSLT post graduate accredited Dysphagia qualification Interaction, or working towards accreditation
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working with Adults with learning disabilities
- Experience of the assessment and treatment of Adult Dysphagia
- Administering clinical assessments and analysing them
- Development and implementation of programs of care
- Carrying out informal assessment in range of environments
- Communicating information clearly to parent/carers and service users

- Knowledge of national policies, legislation and procedures that impact of SLT and future care for learning disabilities
- Clear & concise written skills with competency in IT skills for video calls, reports, accessible information, advice/activity suggestions and internet use to access SLT related information.

- Experience of teaching/ presentation skills appropriate for teaching professionals and peers in an in-service training setting.
- Knowledge of multi-agency services available and processes for referral.
