Children and Young People's Occupational Therapist

Job summary

This role will be to provide Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and treatment to children and young people with a range of needs including; coordination, developmental, physical functional, sensory and sensory motor either in 1:1 input, groups or integrated MDT groups. The role will include writing professional reports and advice for Education Health and Care plans and providing written activity programs for the treatment process. The role will include work within a local clinic, schools and supporting families across Merton. The successful candidate should ideally have experience of supporting and developing more junior members of staff.

Main duties of the job

  • To support provision of a high quality paediatric occupational therapy service to a caseload of children and young people with occupational therapy identified needs.
  • To carry out specific assessments and interventions with children and young people as delegated by a senior Occupational Therapist.
  • To carry a caseload and work independently in a variety of settings, to support children and young people's occupational therapy needs as appropriate.
  • To support and work with Occupational Therapy Assistants to implement therapy programmes to identified children and young people

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent Diploma/Qualification in OT
  • Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • The successful candidate must apply for and receive satisfactory clearance of suitability from the Criminal Records Bureau prior to confirmation and commencement of employment within the Trust.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate/ diploma/ masters level expertise in the specialist field of paediatrics incorporating a wide range of theory and evidence based practise.
  • Member of professional body; NAPOT, SINET, BAOT
  • Attendance at workshops/ seminars in paediatric OT
  • An up to date professional portfolio demonstrating reflective learning

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with a wide range of permanent disabilities and short term illness
  • Experience in working with clients with neurological impairment
  • Experience working with tertiary or voluntary community based services
  • Experience working with clients from diverse cultures.
  • Understanding of cultural differences and their impact on OT provision.
  • Experience in working with children

Desirable

  • Experience working as an occupational therapy assistant.
  • Experience of working in health/social care in the community.
  • Experience with the NHS patient information database (e.g. SystmOne, RiO).
  • Qualification in working with children
