Speech and Language Therapy Clinical Lead - Wandsworth and Merton

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic SLT to lead the South-West Division SLT Team working across the two boroughs of Wandsworth and Merton to cover a 6 month secondment.

We are looking for an experienced SLT with well-established clinical supervisory and line management skills, and clinical experience working in the community in areas of care of the elderly, neurology, palliative care and rehabilitation. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and problem solving skills.

You will benefit from being part of the wider SLT Leadership Team within CLCH; supporting wider service initiatives and developments.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for provision of high-quality Speech and Language Therapy service for patients and the strategic overview/lead on the development of adult speech and language therapy services across Wandsworth and Merton.
  • To provide, maintain and review a comprehensive patient-focused, highly specialist Speech & Language Therapy service. This service will involve patients, carers, families and service providers.
  • To provide clinical leadership in the area of neurology, care of the elderly, palliative care and rehabilitation, covering a range of conditions. To act in a consultancy role for clinical staff in addressing complex service user issues.
  • To be responsible for ensuring evidenced based practise through adherence to current clinical guidelines to ensure the most appropriate and cost-effective clinical pathway for individual patients

Essential

  • Registered Speech and Language Therapist with HCPC.
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • Dysphagia trained with a high level of dysphagia experience.
  • Broad range of clinical experience relevant to the post.

Desirable

  • Management training and qualification
  • Counselling skills training
  • Membership of RCSLT CENs
  • Mentorship course

Experience

Essential

  • A high level of experience working in a community setting and ability to apply that knowledge in order to promote the health of the patients.
  • Extensive post-registration clinical experience at minimum of Band 7 (or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience of assessing and providing care to people with complex long term health conditions, neurological conditions and palliative/EOL care e.g. dementia, stroke, Parkinson's etc.
  • Experience in team management including performance management.
  • Experience working effectively within an MDT, as well as working in collaboration with other community stakeholders and negotiating across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience of teaching others.
  • Experience of receiving and delivering clinical supervision.
  • Experience of providing evidence-based care.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage own workload with minimal supervision.
  • Experience of initiating and implementing service development/quality improvement projects.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with a variety of agencies and professionals and across organisational boundaries.
  • Evidence of innovation in practice evaluation & audit skills.
