Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the Speech and Language Therapy Education Team at Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) NHS Trust.

You will work within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) special schools team, supporting children and young people with a range of complex needs including learning difficulties. The role involves working with the SLTs to deliver interventions to develop children and young people's language and communication skills and supporting the schools to embed good universal and targeted practise within their setting. In addition, the post holder will also be required to support with making some therapy materials and supporting Augmentative and Alternative Communication Systems (AAC).

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills and an interest and experience of working with school-aged children and young people with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

Join us if you want to:

  • Access 1:1 supervision and line management as well as peer group supervision.
  • Access training opportunities including in-house training programme.
  • Learn about a range of interventions and work with children and young people with a wide range of needs.
  • Work in partnership with school staff and families to help them understand and support the language and communication needs of the children and young people attending the schools.
  • Work as part of a friendly, innovative and motivated team with an active diversity and inclusion ethos.

  • A minimum of an NVQ level 3-4 or equivalent in a related subject
  • Ability to read and write clearly and coherently in English
  • Keyboard skills and computer literacy
  • Attendance at relevant courses

Experience

  • Experience of developing/delivering interventions to children with speech, language and communication needs
  • Experience of team working
