Main duties of the job

Main Duties of the job :

  • To deliver an effective and competent level of clinical care under the guidance and supervision of the clinical podiatrist, including the use of scalpel after appropriate training.
  • To monitor patients' foot and general health and report your findings to the Podiatrist to ensure appropriate care pathways are used.
  • To support your colleagues within the service and the wider multidisciplinary setting to ensure that the patient maintains mobility and independence within the community.
  • To support your local team in ensuring the day to day running of the service is efficient and smooth i.e., stock control and equipment maintenance.
  • To manage your own clinical caseload, providing treatment for patients referred by a podiatrist.
  • To provide appropriate education to patients and carers to assist with the delivery of their treatment program and to empower the patient to participate in their self-care.
  • Support and provide assistance during Nail Surgery, including taking basic patient observations

Essential

  • Evidence of secondary education including English & Mathematics
  • IT skills
  • Royal College of Podiatry, Podiatry assistant qualification equivalent to NVQ level 3 or equivalent demonstrable previous experience or completion of a local competency-based training program

Desirable

  • Undertake training in using the scalpel
  • Undertake training in basic/simple dressing applications

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS
  • Good organisational skills
  • Knowledge of supply chain ordering system
  • Taking basic patient observations

Desirable

  • Previous experience as a Podiatry Assistant with own caseload
  • System One knowledge
  • Experience in ABPI/vascular checks
