Job Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for:
Providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention to children and young people with complex needs, dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing disorders) and/or speech language and communication needs as relevant to the role. This will include supporting parents, school staff and other professionals in all issues related to client management. Liaison with the MDT is an integral part of the role.
Understanding and meeting professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children's Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Having accountability for own professional actions and recognising own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate
Main duties of the job
To assess, develop and implement Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy provision for children with dysphagia and SLCN including additional specialist intervention and support to children with one of more specific clinical areas e.g. Complex Needs, ASD, referred to the designated locality, presenting with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties
To evaluate outcomes using formal and informal specific assessment tools as appropriate.
To provide advice and support to others regarding the management and care of children and young people with dysphagia and SLCN.
To adapt practice to meet individual client and families' circumstances.
To deliver a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service consisting of evaluation of interventions for complex and difficult cases such as tribunals as required
To assess children's communication and interaction needs and provide professional advice to contribute to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments) and the annual review process for individual children in line with the Children and Families Act 2014.

- Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice - Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
- Further study in clinical field, including completion of short courses and additional study
Desirable
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Masters degree or equivalent
- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks (CENs)
