Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic band 4 Technical Instructor to join our Multi Disciplinary Falls team based at Wembley Centre for Health and Care in Brent.

The Technical Instructor (TI) will provide a mixture of general and specific care to a group of patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered allied health professional. The TI will work in a variety of settings including community centres, clinics and patient/carers own homes.

The post holder will be expected to become proficient and competent in their area of practice by undertaking competency assessments specific to the area of clinical practice. The TI will promote optimum independence and individualised client centred care to a delegated non-complex caseload.

Main duties of the job

The Technical Instructor is expected to:

To be actively involved in carrying out specific Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy assessments and interventions with clients independently as delegated by an Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist or nurse and compliment and provide continuity of work of the qualified staff.

To communicate effectively will Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist/Nurse staff identifying clients problems, intervention plans and change to their health/function.

To independently complete graded exercise/rehabilitation programmes to carers and report back to senior staff team members; including adapting basic treatment programmes.

To assist with and lead Falls Groups in a variety of settings

To develop the necessary skills and understanding of other services in public, private and voluntary sectors, to be able to refer clients on to appropriate services.

To develop the knowledge and skills to be able to provide advice on Health Living to clients.

To ensure that written and electronic records and data are maintained, submitted at regular intervals and adhere to Trust and service standards.

To maintain the work environment in accordance with Health and safety and Infection control policies.

To identify own development needs and take action to enhance own knowledge skills and areas of competence as appropriate, taking into account organisational needs and objectives.

  • Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (NVQ/QCF - Level 3)
  • A recognised equivalent course
  • oWillingness to undertake further training as appropriate

Desirable

  • GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Trusted Assessor trained
  • PSI qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of two years experience as a Therapy Assistant working in health or similar post.
  • Experience of working as part of a community team
  • oExperience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of databases

Desirable

  • Experience of working as part of falls a team
  • Experience with the NHS patient information database (EMIS)
