Job summary
Job Purpose
To work as a member of the school health team providing health care to children with complex health needs in one of the Special Schools in CLCH.
To undertake training required, becoming clinically competent in providing holistic care for an individual child in a special school setting.
Main duties of the job
To work in conjunction with the Specialist School Nurse, family, teachers, other care workers and health care professionals to ensure a holistic approach to the child's care.
Work effectively and flexibly under direct or indirect supervision to meet the child's individual needs during the school day.
Assist with the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care under the direct/indirect supervision of the Specialist School Nurse
Ensure the safety of the child by monitoring and reporting all concerns and changes in their condition to the Specialist School Nurse
To administer medication to children in the school within competence and under the supervision of the Specialist School Nurse
Respond to child related emergency situations within the school setting within limitations of clinical competence.

- Be an effective communicator, using tact and empathy, to ensure that a high standard of care is given to the child and family.
- Manage stock levels of equipment within the school, liaising with correct channels for ordering disposable supplies in a timely manner, ensuring there is always sufficient stock on the health room Gain and apply knowledge in the communication and developmental needs of the child, including use of Makaton and visual communication aids
- Demonstrate the ability to overcome barriers to communication with the child and / or parents.
- Complete all mandatory training when required to do so and within required time frames
- Support Band 3 Support Workers and school staff in acquiring clinical skills and competence in the school environment
- Keep up-to-date with changing practices, make full use of relevant opportunities for training and self-development
