Job summary
We have an exciting opening for an Assistant Speech and Language Therapist working as part of the Integrated Barnet Learning Disabilities Service. The successful candidate will be based at Colindale - London Borough of Barnet Council offices and working in community settings across the Borough of Barnet. This is an opportunity to develop specialist clinical knowledge and skills for working with this client group.
We welcome applications from people who have outstanding communication skills and understanding of working with people with Learning disability in the community setting and within Speech and Language Therapy Team. The team is small but it is part of multi-professional organisation and previous working experience from NHS setting or Local Council would be an advantage.
You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team and be supported by the senior speech and language therapist. We offer a supportive work environment, are committed to personal and professional development through regular supervision and access to training to enhance your CPD.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for:
- To carry out administrative duties as appropriate, which includes organising timetables, data collection; arranging patient's appointments and maintaining general equipment with support from a speech and language therapist.
- Under guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist, carry out tasks to support the communication and dysphagia needs of service users.
- Under guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist, carry out therapy sessions with individual clients, evaluating session outcomes and discussing these with the therapist on a regular basis.
- Providing basic information on good practice regarding communication, to carers or others.
- To contribute to the design of training programmes, and to assist in the provision of training with support from a speech and language therapist.
