Podiatry Service: Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist Band 7 - Merton

It is an exciting time to join the Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust Podiatry team in Merton and we are seeking enthusiastic and skilled colleagues to join us as we build on existing models of care and introduce new ways of working. Our transformation plans over the next 12 months will include further integration with primary care, planned and unplanned care models and a greater emphasis on population health. We are expanding the existing workforce by recruiting to the current service portfolio.

We are looking for someone who is a highly experienced podiatrist; with post registration training in the management of the diabetic foot (Diabetic Foot Module / CPD) and who is passionate about delivering high quality and efficient adult community services, giving the best care to our patients. We are keen to enhance the existing models of delivery and ensure that our services deliver integrated care with partners across primary, acute and mental health services. A valid UK driving licence plus the use of own transport for business purposes would be helpful.

Main duties of the job

You will need to demonstrate effective leadership skills alongside excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to teach and inspire colleagues through active demonstration of clinical practice and leadership.

Job responsibilities

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care and supporting junior staff members to do likewise.
  • To deliver care in a range of settings. For example (Clinics and Health Centres, Domiciliary visits).
  • To autonomously assess, manage and treat a high-risk complex caseload, consisting of and including patients with acute and chronic diabetic foot problems, pre and post-operative amputations wounds and acute and chronic neuropathic, vascular foot/lower limb problems, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools.
  • To use specialised investigative and analytical skills to undertake comprehensive and sensitive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations, using specialised clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition/problem. This will involve identifying and interpreting conflicting elements from different sources.
  • To be skilled in the comprehensive neurological and vascular assessment, offloading, casting, wound debridement including amputations, advanced pathology, advanced wound management techniques.

  • HCPC Registered Podiatrist (DPodM or BSc)
  • Certificate in local anaesthesia
  • NHS experience with exposure to advanced wound care management
  • Commitment to personal and continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry.
  • Evidence of completion of statutory training.
  • Leadership training
  • Member of appropriate specialist interest group.
  • Willingness to continue post graduate training.
  • Evidence of attendance or completion of diabetic foot specific education (The Foot in Diabetes Module).
