SPECIALIST SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST -Early Years, AfC Band 6, Parkview Centre for Health and Wellbeing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist.

We are looking for speech and language therapists who are values driven; striving to deliver person centred care including goal setting/decision making; highly motivated to address inequalities; seeking to broaden their clinical experience, work in a highly skilled, dynamic and supportive team, and are adaptable to the rapidly changing NHS whole systems place based working focusing on population health at its core.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide in conjunction with the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Team an accessible, person centred, effective, needs led SLT service to the 0-5 age population and their families.
  • To provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, suitable intervention and discharge for children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) on the caseload.
  • The post holder will have well developed specialist skills in one or more clinical specialism within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload children.
  • To work closely with children, parents, carers and multi-disciplinary team members across Health, Social Services, Education and Children's Services to identify and support children's Speech, Language and Communication Needs as relevant to the post.
  • To participate and contribute to developments within the Early Years team including the development of policies and procedures relating to clinical care, evidence-based practice, care pathways and outcome development. To contribute to Trust, service and professional wide initiatives.
  • To understand and meet professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children's Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
  • Health Care Professionals Council Licence to Practise
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT with the right to work in the UK

Desirable

  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Master's degree or equivalent
  • Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks (CENs)

Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years Postgraduate experience in working with children in Early Years (must have successfully completed NQP year)
  • Experience of a range of assessments to identify the communication needs of children and young people on the caseload
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and inter agency working
  • Experience of providing a range of care planning packages necessary to address the speech, language and communication needs of preschool children
  • Experience working collaboratively with parents/carers and other health/education professionals.
  • Experience of planning, organising and delivering training programmes
  • Experience of supporting children, families and schools in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 including contribution to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments), contribution to the annual review process and delivery of SALT provision as specified in Education health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
