Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a fixed term position for an Advanced Physiotherapist Practitioner to join the Integrated Community Musculoskeletal service at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust. CLCH is one of the largest community trusts and is an aspirant foundation status community NHS trust. You will be managing the day to day running of the Barnet service in partnership with the service manager and clinical lead.
The ICMSK service is led by a Consultant Physiotherapist and includes an Advanced Practice Physiotherapy Interface service, injection therapy, access to imaging and diagnostics. The service is linked to a MSK Physiotherapy service and provides support to this service which includes MSK, Pelvic health and Paediatric MSK. The CLCH MSK Physiotherapy service is committed to ongoing research and innovation.
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, well organised and has experience in working in a busy MSK service. Experience of advanced clinical practice, injection therapy, managing people and on-going service development will be key to the role. We would also expect the successful candidate to be actively engaged with evidence based practice and adaptable to the rapidly changing healthcare agenda.
Main duties of the job
To work autonomously using skills within the four pillars of physiotherapy and advanced clinical practice including injection therapy, musculoskeletal triage and assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients including highly complex patients.
To provide expert clinical opinion to managers which assists the strategic direction of the physiotherapy service across the whole organisation utilising the principles of clinical governance.
To educate and train physiotherapists, healthcare professionals, undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy students in the physiotherapeutic management of musculoskeletal conditions.
To provide advanced support and advice to clinical staff within and outside the organisation.
To identify clinical research, audit and data collection priorities within area of expertise to drive departmental clinical development strategy, in line with the governance agenda and in conjunction with the management team

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of the practitioners professional activities
To utilise expert clinical reasoning skills and evidence based knowledge to assess patients with highly complex presentations and implement physiotherapy management plans as an autonomous practitioner
To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts, which may be conflicting to regularly provide expert advice and second opinion to peers, medical colleagues and other health professionals. This includes the formulation of accurate prognoses, recommendation of best course of intervention and development of comprehensive discharge plans
To request and use the results of specialist investigations (e.g. x-rays, blood tests, ultrasound and MRI scans) to assist the formulation of diagnoses and plan patient management
If appropriate training is undertaken the clinician may choose to use injection therapy when indicated under a Patient Group Directive (PGD)
To use advanced theoretical and practical knowledge to refer on to other departments/medical colleagues within or outside the Trust as necessary, based on investigation results and advanced clinical assessment
To provide written reports of clinical opinion to medical colleagues as required
To advise patients, employers and occupational health departments on the appropriate time to return to work, sports and other activities
To co-ordinate patient management which may include advising patients, carers, relatives, other health professionals and medical colleagues
To provide expert opinion, which informs the development of clinical pathways in collaboration with stakeholders
To manage clinical risk within own caseload at all times and ensure clinical risk is effectively managed across the whole department
To be aware of the boundaries of own advanced practise and to manage the associated clinical risk effectively at all times
To be responsible for maintenance of accurate written records using POMR system.
To include comprehensive progress and discharge reports to medical referrers and legal and disability reports.
To demonstrate the highly developed dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory sensory skills necessary for assessment and manual treatment of patients including complex manual therapy techniques, therapeutic handling and use of specialised physiotherapy equipment
