Job summary

Every day, our professionals provide high quality healthcare in schools, people's homes or at convenient local clinics and children centres, helping children and families to stay well, manage their own health with the right support and avoid unnecessary trips to, or long stays in, hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the Healthy Weight Team in the London Borough of Ealing; to support the work undertaken in the borough to reduce obesity levels in children and young people; and to promote healthy weight across the 0-19 service.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on a project to increase the uptake of the healthy start programme amongst vulnerable groups; to increase the uptake of the Sugar Smart programme in Ealing and to initiate a teen healthy weight programme to support healthy habits for children aged 13 years +

Internal, External, Secondment opportunity & fixed term until 31/03/24 - possible 18 month extension

Main duties of the job

You will need to have excellent communication skills to support families from a range of backgrounds; work with businesses; and with professionals from health, education, and social care. You should be confident working as part of a team as well; as well as be able to use initiative and work independently. Mobile and agile working is a key part of the way the services operates so you will need to be comfortable travelling between venues throughout the week; as well as working virtually/ online.

What do you need to join our team?

  • A Nutrition or related Public Health degree is essential
  • Registration to a relevant professional registering body in the UK (e.g. Registration with the Association for Nutrition or the British Dietetic Association) is desirable
  • Experience working with children (0-19) and/or families
  • A dynamic, enthusiastic, can do attitude

Mobile and agile working is a key part of the way the services operates, so you will need to be comfortable travelling between venues throughout the week; as well as delivering sessions online to children and families.

Job responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the provision of specialist weight management intervention for children (aged 5 - 13 years) who have been identified as above a healthy weight for their age; and their families, on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting (without direct supervision) when required.
  • To work independently under the supervision of the Programme Manager to undertake clinical tasks to support the development and delivery of the healthy weight programme across Ealing; including recruiting and enrolling participants onto appropriate programmes; leading on the development and delivery of nutrition, behaviour change theory sessions, and other practical sessions such as cookery clubs.
  • To be responsible for the accurate collection and input of clinical data (including heights, weights and body mass index) into the relevant IT system; maintenance of patient records in accordance with Trust policies and generation of reports as required.
