Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic Medical Devices Coordinator to join CLCH's Medical Devices team. The role will support the management systems for medical devices in our community healthcare organisation.

The job role is to ensure the safe use of all medical devices across the trust.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the appropriate selection and procurement of medical devices
  • Ensuring device maintenance is carried out in accordance with best practice
  • Assisting in service mobilisation / demobilisation process
  • Assist in the development and implementation of assurance audits
  • Working collaboratively with service level colleagues to identify areas for innovation

Project management experience is essential; technical experience of medical devices and their management is desirable. The post holder will possess effective skills in communication and negotiation, and will be able to demonstrate motivation and customer focus in their way of working.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To support the trust-wide management system for medical devices, ensuring appropriate procurement, installation, training, maintenance, decontamination, timely replacement and decommissioning are carried out in accordance with best practice, manufacturers instructions and national guidance, to ensure the safe use of every medical device.
  • To work with the Medical Devices Manager to ensure accuracy of the trust-wide medical devices database, to meet regulatory requirements, ensuring information is accurate and up to date at all times.
  • To work with the Medical Devices Manager to ensure that the Trust meets all Care Quality Commission requirements for medical device management.
  • Ensure the operational safety of all electro-medical equipment maintained by the department complies with the requirements of IEC/EN 62353, AAMI/IEC/EN 60601-1, IEC 61010, Electricity at Work Regulations and in keeping with the MHRA guidance Managing Medical Devices, 2021
  • Administer a high level of record keeping and asset management.
  • To participate in developing service check lists and work instructions for medical devices within the Trust.
  • To support the monitoring of the performance of the servicing contractor across the Trust, under the direction of the Medical Devices Manager.
  • Ensure the correct information is held on the trust asset database updating as required.
  • To work collaboratively to promote patient safety and reduce risk in the management of medical devices and patient equipment.
  • To support the medical devices team during mobilisation and demobilisation of clinical services to ensure medical devices are managed correctly and safely during the transfer of assets including commissioning, acceptance testing, asset registering, and, when appropriate, condemning and disposal of intermediate equipment.
  • To support the commissioning and decommissioning of medical devices as part of a proactive medical device replacement programme and during mobilisation and demobilisation CLCH services
  • To participate in the management systems for shared service medical devices.
  • To support the medical devices team in the implementation of any new initiatives and government directives on medical device management.
  • To participate in assurance audits of the use and management of medical devices across all healthcare services and environments; to report using DATIX and rectify any hazardous practice; to evaluate the implementation of policy; to produce action plans and follow-up on recommendations.
  • To participate in medical devices policy development.
  • To participate in the annual audit of the medical devices database, to ensure coverage of all devices, completeness of servicing records, the database reflects the reality of devices in use and their physical location.
  • To support the medical devices team and clinical services in product trials and evaluation of medical devices and commissioning devices as part of the replacement programme.
  • To carry out duties related to work at various sites within CLCH as agreed with Medical Devices Manager.
  • To assist device users with all aspects of intermediate equipment use providing advice and training where required.
