The Infection Prevention team provides clinical and technical support to our clinicians, services, divisions and to wider CLCH organization. We are focused on supporting the delivery of high quality, safe and effective healthcare to our patients. If you have broad clinical experience, a passion for providing a high quality, safe and effective patient care and an interest on how infection prevention and control is proved to be an integral part of patient care, then this may be your awaited opportunity. This post will be allocated to Inner North West London Division however the team operates an agile working strategy across five operational divisions where service is required,

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To provide advice on infection prevention and control (IPC) to all community healthcare services.
  • To audit infection control practice and standards across all community healthcare services and environments; to identify and assist in the rectification of hazardous practice; to evaluate the implementation of infection control policies; to produce written reports and action plans and follow-up on recommendations.
  • To work with the senior infection prevention nurse in providing advice on the IPC aspects of premises and service developments, any contract/service specifications commissioned by CLCH.
  • To participate in PLACE (Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment) inspections and to advise CLCH on the IPC aspects of cleaning, waste segregation in collaboration with Estates and Facilities colleagues, decontamination of equipment and adherence to appropriate IPC policies.
  • To assist on deciding in the procurement of infection control related products, such as personal protective equipment, sharps safety devices and hand hygiene products, conducting and evaluating product trials, involving, and working with the Medical Devices and Procurement teams, where necessary.
  • To participate in infection control surveillance and audit programmes, in accordance with the annual infection prevention work programme and in response to any clinical concerns that may arise.
  • To work with the senior infection prevention nurse in providing specific reactive advice on patient care and management in the control of communicable diseases or organisms; in terms of isolation precautions, treatment, contact tracing / prophylaxis, immunisation and/or other control measures, working in partnership with microbiology, health protection staff and other external and internal stakeholders.
  • To advise on the care and management of invasive devices to reduce infection risk.
  • To work effectively across multi-disciplinary teams and with external partners, for example cleaning contractors, to promote effective infection prevention practice.
  • To work closely with CLCH staff and managers to identify linked cases, clusters, and outbreaks of infection within Trust services.
  • To assist in the investigation, management, and implementation of outbreak control measures, including liaising with the wider Infection Prevention and Health Protection Teams, CLCH staff and managers, as appropriate.
