Job summary

The Central London Adult Autism Service (CLAAS) is an established psychology team providing high quality services for autistic adults (without a learning disability).

Our approach is neuroaffirmative and person-centred. We are responsible for the autism diagnostic services in Westminster, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. We also provide post-diagnosis support to autistic adults, as well as consultation and advice to health and social care services.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an assistant psychologist with a keen interest in working in an adult autism service.

You will demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of the context of services for individuals with autism and the ability to work with health and social care professionals.

You will undertake work directly with service users with established and potential diagnoses of autism, their family members and wider care network.

The person appointed will have a Psychology Degree (first/upper second-class) or a Masters Degree in Psychology. Knowledge of research methodology, computer literacy, experience of data analysis, and a high level of written communication skills are required.

The service good links with the North London Doctoral Training courses in Clinical Psychology, to which it regularly provides clinical placements to doctoral trainees.

  • Under close supervision to undertake protocol-based autism diagnostic assessments of service users. This may include applying psychological tests, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the service users care.
  • Where appropriate, to assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service users problems, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist, in both community and in-patient/residential settings.
  • Where appropriate, to assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups.
  • To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all service users of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
  • To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.

  • A minimum 2:1 honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health and/or neurodevelopmental conditions and/or research design and analysis.
