Merton Community Neuro Rehab Team

Fixed-Term Contract (12 months), 0.4wte (two days per week / 15 hours per week)

The Merton Neuro Rehab service is a multi-disciplinary team which provides rehabilitation to patients (ages 18+) with acquired neurological conditions.

So, what do you need to join our team?

To be educated in a Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent combination of post-graduate/ registration, qualification, short courses and experience

Ability to demonstrate working autonomously in developing treatment plans, assessment, discharge planning for patients with complex care needs

Experience of supervising others

Excellent verbal and written skills

Job responsibilities

To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis and clearly planned specialist treatment for a caseload of adult clients with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders within community and outpatient, and virtual settings.
To provide evidence-based rehabilitation programmes.
To participate in the vocation rehabilitation team meetings and provide assessment and treatment that supports patients/clients being seen by this team.
Where appropriate, to develop and maintain skills in the area of Videofluoroscopy. To be aware of Health and Safety issues in relation to potential exposure to radiation and bodily fluids.
To hold and manage a specialist caseload and be legally accountable for all clinical decisions and professional actions, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.
To be able to work on own initiative and without direct supervision.

Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy (BSc or MSc).
HCPC Registered.
Postgraduate dysphagia training and competency to independently manage a dysphagia caseload.
Postgraduate training and/or experience in communication disorders and therapy.
Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

RCSLT member.

Experience

Essential

Established experience of approximately 3 years (Band 5 or above) with adult acquired and neurological disorders.
Experience of working independently and as part of a team in a community setting.
Videofluoroscopy experience (clinic attendance only or competencies signed off).
Experience of student / junior staff supervision and training.

Desirable

Videofluoroscopy competencies signed off.
Previous experience in tracheostomy management.
Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT) trained.
Previous experience of working with adults with a learning disability.
