We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our North West Bedded Rehabilitation team located at the Alexandra Rehabilitation Unit. The role of Band 3 Rehabilitation Assistant offers an excellent opportunity to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering holistic, client centred and evidence based care.

Alexandra Rehabilitation Unit is an in-patient rehabilitation facility providing rehab for residents in the Inner North West London boroughs who wish to maximise their independence following illness or injury. Alexandra Rehabilitation Unit offers rehab services to adult clients with a variety of conditions/ diagnoses including those who present with Falls, Amputees, Neurological and Orthopaedic conditions that require ongoing rehabilitation to enhance their independent functioning.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision from the leads in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, your main role will be to assist therapy staff in delivering intervention programmes on the unit. You will also assist with administrative tasks for the smooth running of the team. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dieticians, clinical support workers, nurses, doctors.

You should have experience working with older people or people with disabilities in a rehabilitation or community setting. Effective time management, caseload management and administrative skills are essential, as are excellent communication skills and a commitment to the principles and practices of effective MDT working.

You will be joining a friendly and forward-thinking multidisciplinary service, which is committed to high standards of practice. We will support you in developing your clinical skills, as well as offer you the opportunity to participate in clinical governance activities and other policy and service developments. We are committed to developing staff through regular supervision, appraisals, inservice training and support in CPD opportunities.

Job responsibilities

To provide physiotherapy and occupational therapy intervention as part of a specific treatment planagreed and documented by physiotherapist/occupational therapist.

To manage the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the physiotherapist or occupational therapist.Once competencies completed, being responsible for assessing patient progress and reporting back to the physiotherapist or occupational therapist.

To assist the physiotherapist or occupational therapist with complex patients in their own home environment or on the unit.

With training and once competent, have the ability to handle patients with mobility problems, in an enabling way. This may include the use of hoists, sliding sheets, wheelchairs, mobility aids etc.

To work independently in the designated clinical area/patients home following an agreed treatment plan.

To follow departmental and trust guidelines for obtaining informed consent for interventions with patients.

  • Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (NVQ/QCF - Level 3) or; A recognised equivalent course or; Willingness to undertake further training as appropriate
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy.

  • GCSE grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Associate member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists (BAOT) or Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP).
