Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dynamic vaccination support worker who has a desire to work in the community with relevant transferrable skills to join the vaccination team in the delivery of the COVID 19 and the annual Flu Campaign to staff/patients.

You will be supporting the nurse and undertaking vaccinations for both staff and patients

Main duties of the job

  • The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme Vaccinator will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering a safe and effective service for the mass delivery of flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • The post holder will work under the supervision of Band 6 (B6), and will be responsible for administering COVID-19 vaccine to clients within a team of staff working in premises agreed by the Trust.
  • Configuration of the vaccination area.
  • Administration of the vaccine using the National Protocol.
  • Disposal of clinical waste and change of PPE as per Trust/national guidelines.
  • Adherence to infection control practices between individuals.

Job responsibilities

  • Assess the patients readiness for vaccination/address any concerns and ensure consent and clinical assessment has already taken place.
  • Administer the COVID vaccine to consented and assessed individuals.
  • Ensure correct syringes and needles are used.
  • Ensure that vaccine batch numbers are recorded under the correct patient.
  • Disposal of syringes and sharps as per Trust clinical waste policy.
  • Take on accountability for administration of the vaccine under the Trust/national protocol, once drawn up and clinical assessment carried out.
  • Work pattern altering to meet service need and prioritising work issues accordingly with changes faced.
  • Undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which the post holder has been trained and assessed as competent.
  • Assist with the overall setting up of the Vaccination Clinic and day to day delivery of the vaccinations, ensuring clinic rooms and equipment within area are prepared and sufficient stock of clinic supplies are available.
  • Wear adequate PPE equipment in line with current national guidelines.
  • Confirm the identity of the patient and the agreement of undertaking vaccination, addressing any concerns, and referring to B6 if required.
  • Administer vaccines into the patients deltoid in accordance with training and local and national policies, procedures and standards.
  • Once the vaccination is delivered, ensure proper disposal of clinical waste and change of PPE as per local and national guidelines
  • Be able to respond to and make judgements on complications or emergency situations, such as anaphylaxis.
  • Respond to queries appropriately and liaise where necessary to gain further advice or information.
  • Monitor and report fridge temperatures in line with Cold Chain training/Trust policy.
