CLCH R&D Department are in the process of expanding its research delivery team and seek a highly motivated Community Research Nurse / Clinical Research Practitioner to drive forward our research portfolio. This post is integral in the Trust's R&D strategy to become a leader in community research, drive innovation, enhance patient care and maximise opportunities for our patients and staff to participate in high quality research.

Previous experience in a clinical research role is highly desirable, and training can be provided for those who wish to develop their experience. Clinical experience or experience within a clinical setting and be willing to travel to different sites is important.

Main duties of the job
- The research nurse/research practitioner is expected to support the safe conduct of research in accordance with the regulatory and legal frameworks related to the planning, recruiting and follow-up of clinical research studies.
- Working as part of the research team the research nurse/ research practitioner will be accountable for the assessment, planning, organisation and on-going care of research participants according to the study protocol.
- Collaborate with key personnel to ensure the continued care and support for patients involved in clinical trials and studies.
- Accurately and timely complete trial data and documentation

- To give skilled care, based on principles of best practice and clinical evidence. From a nursing perspective this may include but not limited to:
- Chronic disease management, end of life care, continence promotion and wound management. Specific skills include phlebotomy, administration of medication via syringe drivers and intravenous therapy, PEG management, urinary catheterisation and tracheostomy suctioning.
- With precision and accuracy deliver clinical practices in accordance with Trust and professional body boundaries. In collaboration with the Research Team, ensure the safe administration of treatments given within the context of a clinical trial.
- Manage a caseload of people who have consented to participate in certain studies.
- Act as the patients advocate and to facilitate the patients own choices with regard to research participation, care, promoting independence and self-care, as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and contemporaneous records in accordance with GCP, Trust and professional guidelines.
- Undertake study procedures required and in line with the research protocol.
- To provide information and support to patients, relatives and other carers that promotes and optimises positive health.
- Provide accurate and timely information, education, and support to patients (and their significant others) regarding clinical research. To have knowledge of and be able to effectively use local services and resources to promote patient care. For example, specialist services.
- To ensure the safe handling of body fluids and contaminated sharps (where appropriate).
- Be alert to the needs of vulnerable adults including risk assessment and taking appropriate action when required.
- Where applicable to develop and utilise specialist nursing skills such as leg ulcer assessment and management, syringe driver set up, intravenous drug administration, continence assessment, and palliative care.
- Have an understanding of adverse event reporting and recording, and ensure that the team, Principal Investigator and Study co-ordinator are made aware of any such events
- Act at all times in a way that maintains patients and carers dignity
- Refer to other specialists as required to provide optimal patient care
