Job summary

We are looking for a Dynamic, Self-motivated Podiatrist to take up the role of Band 7 Diabetes Specialist and High Risk Podiatrist to work in the tri-borough area of Central London, providing care to residents across Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. This role should be of interest to those seeking to specialist in high risk care, wound management and peripheral vascular disease.

Main duties of the job

So what do you need to join our team?

  • To be have clinical experience in providing NHS podiatry.
  • To have a BSc or evidence of post registration training in the management of the high risk foot
  • Proven experience in service development in Podiatry, including audit, mentoring and educating
  • You will need to be able to adapt to a fast moving service, work autonomously, and possess the clinical skills and ability to work independently and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team
  • Candidates should have excellent communication skills, comprehensive clinical assessment skills and the ability to provide care as determined by clinical assessments.
  • To have strong relationship building skills to work positively in your nursing team, multidisciplinary teams and with patients

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work across the community services and contribute to the formal provision of community podiatry. The post holder will form close relationship between acute and primary care, streamlining the local diabetes foot pathways.

The post holder may need to participate in the weekend emergency foot clinics as and when required. The post holder will provide specialist foot care for patients with diabetes with complex, high risk foot problems. This includes diabetes patients with acute and chronic foot wounds, patients with neuropathic and vascular complications. The post holder will be clinically responsible for treatment of the high-risk caseload working autonomously as well as work as part of the multidisciplinary team.

The post requires accepting emergency referrals from people with diabetes, GPs, community podiatrists, and other health professionals and will provide responsive specialist care.

A need for education and up-skilling of clinical and care staff, working with diabetic patients with diabetes and high-risk foot conditions in various settings in NWL, has been identified. The holder of this post will have a responsibility for contributing to the planning and delivery of this education. There will be a responsibility for structured patient education for people with diabetes and their carers currently

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • Podiatry professional degree qualification.
  • Registration with Health Professions Council.
  • Certificate in Local Anaesthesia.
  • Evidence or Portfolio of post-grad Continued Development.
  • Experience of service delivery in acute and community settings.
  • Evidence of Specialist study and training in Diabetes e.g. SOCAP/COP Diabetic Foot Module; Post graduate study.
  • Experience of working at a Band 6 level or above and evidence of working with a high-risk caseload, specifically diabetes in an acute and community setting.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working.

Desirable

  • Independent Prescriber status
  • Ionising Radiation (medical exposure) Regulations Training
  • Training in requesting and interpretation of investigations relevant to diabetic foot complications
