Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist who wants to develop upon their clinical and leadership skills to lead the therapy service at Alexandra Rehabilitation Unit. This exciting opportunity has been newly created to enhance the clinical effectiveness of the rehab service delivered at Alexandra Unit and you will be closely supported by the Clinical Therapy Lead as well as the Team Lead Occupational therapist and Team Lead Physiotherapist based at nearby Athlone House Rehabilitation Unit.

Alex is an 11 bedded unit, offering rehabilitation to adult clients with a variety of conditions/diagnoses including orthopaedics, elderly care and neurological conditions. Alex also offers specialist rehab to bariatric patients and individuals with complex cognitive presentations. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the therapy team at Alex which consists of an additional 2 Physiotherapists, another Occupational Therapist and a Rehabilitation assistant. This post will offer applicants an exciting and challenging opportunity to work with a wide variety of patients, engaging in comprehensive assessment, patient centered treatment and rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

So what do you need to join our team?

  • Significant post graduate experience of multidisciplinary team work in an NHS environment
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in working in adult/ older people's rehabilitation in a physical or mental health setting, neuro rehabilitation, acute settings or community rehab services.
  • Experience of working in close collaboration with community services, Social Care colleagues and other voluntary sector organizations in order to deliver safe transition of care from the rehabilitation setting to discharge destination/home
  • Experience in directly managing other members of therapy staff
  • Experience in service development and in organizing and implementing training/teaching programmes for healthcare professionals and clients

  • To undertake uni-professional, multi-professional and specialist occupational therapy assessments using evidence-based outcome measures on the rehabilitation unit.   • To manage and prioritise own clinical caseload and other responsibilities independently demonstrating a flexible approach to the needs of the service.
