Job summary

Sexual Health South West London is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated sexual health adviser to join our team based in Clapham Junction. The service provides level 3 integrated sexual health and contraception from a hub in Wandsworth and two smaller spoke clinics in Merton and Richmond

The role of the Health Adviser is to provide advice, information, education, treatment, and limited counselling to patients diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis. Health Advisers participate in the management of the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out partner notification, ensuring the timely attendance and treatment of contacts. The role also includes safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Health Advisers also play a key role in HIV post test discussion and manage and support onward referral.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate knowledge of Sexual Health & HIV services and ideally have an understanding and awareness of the role of the sexual health adviser.If you are an experienced Health Adviser or someone with considerable sexual health and HIV experience, we would love you to consider joining our team.

The applicant will be based within the Sexual Health Advising team at 160 Falcon Road clinic but will manage the results and patient care for patients who may attend our spoke clinics

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a RGN/RMN or educated to post graduate diploma level in relevant subjects.

They will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to be able to talk to someone in a non-judgmental manner on sensitive issues. They will have good working knowledge on HIV and sexually transmitted infections and good knowledge around the principles and practice around partner notification.

  1. To manage the process of partner notification/management for these clients in order to encourage, with the clients consent, the attendance of all potentially infected sexual contacts to a Sexual Health clinic. Ensure partner notification outcomes are recorded accurately
  1. To provide time limited 1:1 work for clients specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change, using evidenced based tools such as Motivational Interviewing and Behavioural Change models. Assessing all factors which might negatively affect a clients sexual health and referring to appropriate specialist services e.g., Psychology/Psychiatry & Alcohol & Drug services
  1.
