Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within BCHCFT's Dental Division for one full time Dental Nurse Assessor to join the School of Dental Nursing for 37.5 hours per week on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. This will be based at Birmingham Dental Hospital and the post holder will contribute primarily to the delivery and assessment of Dental Nursing apprenticeships.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in close collaboration with fellow Dental Nurse Tutors, Dental Matrons, Dental Nurse Management Team, Learning and Development Team as well as a large team of clinical staff and students. The post holder will be an experienced Dental Nurse and hold a recognised assessment qualification. The post holder will need to evidence their Continuing Professional Development as part of their application. The post holder will deliver assessment which will include the following activities:
- Question candidates- to assess their underpinning knowledge and to gauge how they would deal with non-standard situations.
- Monitor candidates' progress- this may involve examining their portfolios of evidence - evidence that records candidates' ability at work and demonstrates their knowledge and understanding. Evidence may be paper based and/or electronic.
- Hold professional discussions with students, where necessary.
- Record and provide timely and accurate feedback to students on their performance and progression/achievement.
- Undertake assessment as part of a wider assessment role, supporting learners to further their maths and English skills.
- Record candidates' progress and sign off units as they are completed.
- Give candidates detailed feedback after a planned assessment and provide any necessary support and advice.
- Keep detailed records of candidates' progress and pass on relevant information to the awarding bodies.
- Ensure effective quality control and continuous improvement in all aspects of this post in keeping with the organisations existing policies and developing quality assurance systems;
- Contribute to the review and evaluation of the programmes taught, provide advice on ways to improve delivery and help implement quality improvement plans;
- Motivate and support learners through their programme, providing training and timely feedback throughout and where necessary.
- Develop plans and agree specific dates with candidates for assessing competence.
- Communicate with candidates and liaise with departments.
- Judge evidence against the criteria to make assessment decisions.
- Provide candidate with comprehensive written documentation following assessment.
- Contribute to internal quality assurance process.
